While attending many meets this season, I was impressed by all four teams’ sportsmanship and spirit. Continually I saw girls cheering on other teams’ swimmers when theirs were no longer in the pool. At a meet between Edmonds-Woodway, Meadowdale and Mariner last week, during the last relay race of the day, our two teams lined the pool to cheer. Both ESD teams finished with one of Mariner’s teams still with 50 yards to swim. A spontaneous repetitive shout came from both Edmonds-Woodway and Meadowdale, “Mariner, Mariner, Mariner” until that girl finished the race. All the girls know the effort each swimmer is making to finish any of the races, whether they are a state level swimmer, or beginner. I love high school “no-cut” sports. During the ESD meet on Saturday, similar sportsmanship took place. Kudos to all four teams.
