Cascade Symphony’s Holiday Concert tickets selling out

Pamela Liu, concertmaster of Cascade Symphony.

Tickets are in high demand for Cascade Symphony’s 2nd annual Holiday Concert, to be presented on Dec. 10, 2012.

The program will include Christmas carols arranged by Leroy Anderson as well as a selection from Peter Illich Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. Concertgoers will also enjoy the familiar “Winter” from Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Johann Sebastian Bach’s timeless Ave Maria, arranged by Charles-François Gounod. Both feature CSO concertmaster, Pamela Liu, on the violin.

The Chanukah Klezmer Medley, arranged by Robin Seletsky and orchestrated by Ed Marcus, features a collection of popular and beloved Chanukah melodies. Klezmer music originated in Eastern Europe and consists of dance tunes and instrumental pieces important to Jewish ceremonies and celebrations. Pieces by Johann Strauss Jr. (Emperor Waltz, Opus 437 and Pizzicato Polka) and Johann Strauss Sr. (Radetzky March) are both featured on the program. Finally, the hauntingly beautiful “Meditation” from the opera Thaïs again features Liu on the violin. The orchestral version of this piece illustrates composer Massenet’s lyrical melodic writing and lucid orchestral textures.

In her third year as concertmaster of Cascade Symphony, Pamela Liu received her Bachelors Degree in Violin Performance at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University.  She also joined the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra in Taipei, Taiwan, before attending the University of Washington where she received a Masters Degree in Violin Performance.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Edmonds Center for the Arts (425-275-9595). Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors (60+), $15 for students (with ID) and $10 for children 12 and under. Please note that although the concert is currently mostly sold out, audience members should call the ECA box office or come to the concert in person to obtain any newly available tickets. If ticket holders are unable to use tickets already purchased, CSO welcomes donations of these tickets for resale.
