Reminder: City sponsoring Celebration of Lights fundraiser for youth scholarships

In the spirit of giving, the City of Edmonds invites you to light a light this holiday season to benefit the City of Edmonds Youth Scholarship Fund. Your donation will enable Edmonds children who otherwise couldn’t afford it to participate in Edmonds Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services programs.

Here’s how it works: A living fir tree is strung with lights and placed at the entrance of the Frances Anderson Center. Donate $5 per light and the Parks & Rec Department will note your donation on the main floor bulletin board of the Frances Anderson Center.  The tree will be lit through Jan. 2, 2013.  After the holidays, it will be planted in the interior of Yost Park.

Each year, the City of Edmonds Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department receives numerous requests for assistance and provides approximately $4,000 in scholarships.  The Celebration of Lights program has raised $9,980 for the Youth Scholarship Fund.

To light a light, call 425-771-0230 and the city will send you a form. Or stop by the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main Street, Edmonds.

  1. What a great idea! I especially like it that the tree will get a brand new home after the holidays. I’ll donate!!
