The Edmonds Sister City Commission — Edmonds is a sister city to Hekinan, Japan — is taking applications for a student representative to the Commission.
The applicant must be a resident of Edmonds and have a strong interest in Japan. Duties will include attending meetings on the fourth Monday evening of the month and assisting with events around the Mayor’s Delegation to Hekinan in April and the Hekinan Delegation for the Commission’s 25th Anniversary in October. In addition, special projects, such as the Commission’s booth at the Edmonds’ Farmer’s Market and student delegation recruiting, will fall to the representative.
The current position is for the remainder of the 2012–2013 academic year and will begin upon the selection of a candidate and run through Aug. 31, 2013 — with the possibility of being extended for the 2013–2014 academic year. Terms are for one academic year starting on Sept. 1 and running through Aug. 31.

The Sister City Commission’s mission is to promote international communication and understanding through exchanges of people, ideas and culture. The student representative will help with this promotion among young people in Edmonds and contribute to international cultural understanding in the community.
