Cascade Symphony begins 2013 with the concert, “Northern Lights” on Mon., Jan. 21, at 7:30 p.m., at the Edmonds Center for the Arts. The concert will be preceded at 6:30 by a lecture by KUOW’s Dave Beck.
The orchestra continues to fill the concert hall in this 51st year with an exciting variety of music. The Symphony No. 2 by Sibelius has become his most popular symphony, with its nationalistic feeling, energy, and soaring melody. The concert will open with the rousing “Procession of the Nobles” by Rimsky-Korsakov, which will be followed by the ethereal Prelude to “Afternoon of a Faun”.
The featured soloist for this concert will be Page Smith, solo cellist of the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra and the Auburn Symphony. She will perform the Cello Concerto in A minor by Camille Saint-Saens – a popular staple of the cello repertoire. Smith is one of the area’s favorite chamber musicians, and performs extensively throughout the area.
Limited tickets remain, and are available only through the Edmonds Center for the Arts at 425-275-9595 or at www.ec4arts.org. If the concert has not sold out, some tickets will be available at the door. For more information, please see the Cascade Symphony website at www.cascadesymphony.org.
