During the week of April 1 – 8, Mayor Dave Earling will lead a delegation of Edmonds representatives to Hekinan, Japan, in honor of the 25th Anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Edmonds and Hekinan. Interested individuals are invited to join him on this historic trip.

The cost will be approximately $1,300 – $1,500 per person for flight, with additional room-and-board costs depending on hotel stay or home stay. Home stays are limited on a first-come first-served basis, while hotel stays are approximately $50 – $100 per person through arrangements with the City of Hekinan. Travelers are responsible for making their own travel arrangements through a travel agent or Max Hattori of Sankei Travel of America in Seattle, (206) 778-7130; max@sankeitravel.com. A current passport is required for travel and can be obtained through the Edmonds Municipal Court.

The go/no go deadline is Feb. 8, although airline reservations do not need to be made by this date. If you are interested in traveling to Hekinan, or would like more information on this opportunity, please contact Carolyn LaFave in the Mayor’s Office at 425.771.0247 or carolyn.lafave@edmondswa.gov.

  1. It would be nice if the mayor could put together a delegation to walk across the street from City Hall to the Edmonds Police Station and request that SOMEONE solve the still OPEN 37 year old Edmonds murder case of my 15 year old sister, ALLISON NAKASHIMA, and bring to JUSTICE the PEOPLE that were involved with her murder.

As the NAKASHIMA name is a prominent Japanese family name in the history of Edmonds and Seattle and Snohomish County, this case deserves JUSTICE. Pretending this case is something other than what it really is (the murder of an innocent 15 year old girl perpetrated by a number of people in 1976) is not going to make the case go away. There are plenty of people waiting for this case to see the light of day and the people involved brought to justice.

  2. There is currently nobody working at the Police Department that was working there in 1976. So it is likely that nobody there now has ever heard of this case. A fresh look at the case by new investigators could very well result in a renewed interest. It is also possible that the previous results could be confirmed. But it never hurts to look.

    1. Almost everybody involved or related to this case, with the exception of the Chief of Police at the time (and he just passed away recently), is still alive, including the mayor of Edmonds in 1976. Our current Chief of Police I believe started working with the Edmonds Police Department 2 years after this murder, and would also be aware of this case. Our current mayor lives in close proximity to a person believed to be her doctor, though no one in the family or her friends knew of this person or ever knew her to be in Edmonds. At least one other person connected to this doctor supposedly had Allison at her home even though nobody knew her. This person works in Edmonds right now and is associated with a distant family member that has had business here for many, many years. I was told 6 months ago by a Sgt. Blackburn at the Edmonds Police Department that this case was TURNED OVER to the Cold Case Unit at the Snohomish County Sheriffs Office. Recently I was told by the Cold Case people they have never heard of this case. Sgt. Blackburn conveniently appears to not work at the EPD anymore. I have important information regarding this whole case, and the EPD refuses to reopen this. As the EPD did not interview ANYBODY in the family, I would think they need to have this information to CLOSE this case for good.

  3. This police department knows of this case because I found out when I moved here three years ago that they had my sister’s case boxes open and were going through her things from the crime scene (end of 2009 I believe). I was shocked to find this out as we (the family) was told 37 years ago that this case was closed by Robin Hickock of EPD who later became the Chief of Police here in Edmonds. Mr. Hickock is still living and lives in eastern Washington, and is well aware of this case. He was the head detective in 1976. The only time the EPD had contact with the family of Allison was 37 years ago when my other sister and I came to Edmonds Police Dept. to identify items of hers from the crime scene and a phone call made to my grandmother by EPD telling her of her grandaughters identity . A fresh look at this case will do no good unless the police detectives have ALL of the information from the family and people involved. The family name for Allison is not even in the original case paper-work. I have never been interviewed by ANY police regarding this case, and Allison had been at my house for a couple weeks prior to her disappearance. The fact that a “psychic” from California had on her website information about this case and how she helped solve it was shocking to me.
*** The EPD must be well aware of this case as I received a phone call a few months ago that the Seattle Police Department actually sent a detective to Kentuckey to get DNA from the niece of the man that EPD (the psychic and two detectives from California) had said supposedly commited the murder. ………I am assuming there was no DNA match to anything, or the “Ted Bundy of the Burbs” would have been real news.
THIS is a well-known open case by many people.
I would think if any law enforcement actually wanted this case solved and closed, le would want ALL the real information they could get.
**** The new detective (Honnen) repackaged items from the crime (2010) scene and filled out a “Summary” of the case with the same incorrect information from 37 years ago on the new summary form. When I told them the information was incorrect, I was told that this case was on hold until they received “pertinent” information. I guess a family name isn’t considered “pertinent” information, or direct information from people involved with Allison at the time is not “pertinent”.

  4. The “Summary” page Det. Honnen filled out does not even mention that Allison was due to testify in court in downtown Seattle against people within 10 days of her disappearance. .

****She disappeared two days after a photograph of her was taken by police at my mothers house.

  5. A large (4′) “marker” was mentioned by four people at her crime scene. I have seen the photograph and this was a large “marker”. at the crime scene.

  6. Tere,

I was one of the kids playing in the woods that day when we found her. It’s nice to know that she had a name and a family that cared about her. I’m sorry for your loss and I hope you are able to get this resolved.

  7. Thank you, Paul. I’m sorry you had to experience that 35 years ago. Yes, this will be resolved, with or without local law enforcement help.
