The Edmonds City Council on Tuesday night unanimously approved a $758,683 project contract with the Washington State Department of Enterprise Services for energy-efficiency projects that will actually end up costing the city just over $500,000, thanks to state grant money — with the remainder paid through a combination of city fund dollars ($222, 150) and $280,176 financed through a low-interest, 10-year State Treasury loan.
In the long run, the city will earn much of its investment back through energy saved, Public Works Director Phil Williams told the council.
Among the projects to be funded: installing a new boiler at Yost pool; conversion of downtown decorative lights to to LED fixtures and city-owned surface parking lots and yards to LED lighting; installation of additional interior occupancy sensors in city buildings so lights automatically turn down when rooms are empty; replacement of five heating units at the Edmonds Senior Center and an HVAC upgrade for the city council chambers.
The council also went through additional items on a staff-prepared chart for incorporating the Harbor Square Master Plan into the City’s Comprehensive Plan, and agreed to continue discussing plan elements during its April 16 meeting.
