The season came to an end for Edmonds-Woodway High School grad Sydney Donaldson and the Western Washington University women’s basketball team Wednesday night. The Vikings fell, 66-54, to Ashland University in a quarterfinal contest of the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball National Tournament at Bill Greehey Arena on the St. Mary’s University campus.
The Vikings, ranked No.5 nationally, concluded their season 29-4 after having a 12-game winning streak snapped, and matched their best-ever national finish, having reached the national semifinals previously in 2000. Donaldson, a 6-foot sophomore, graduated from EWHS in 2011.
