Students from 15 schools in the Edmonds School District converged on Mountlake Terrace High School Tuesday night for the district’s STEM Expo. The fair gave 300 students in grades 4-12 an opportunity to showcase their research and design work in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

A number of private companies involved in earth sciences, engineering and design, along with the University of Washington, Seattle University and Edmonds Community College, were on hand to share opportunities they have for students both now and in the future.

Mountlake Terrace High School is home of the district’s STEM Magnet program that gives students a chance to enroll in more rigorous curriculum in STEM studies, with a focus on aerospace engineering, computer science or biotechnology during their junior and senior years. Almost 90 students are currently enrolled in the STEM program this school year, with another 100 already set to join the program next year.

District schools with students taking part in the STEM Expo included Mountlake Terrace, Edmonds-Woodway, Lynnwood and Meadowdale high schools; Edmonds Heights K-12; Brier-Terrace, College Place, Alderwood and Meadowdale middle dchools; Maplewood K-8; and Terrace Park, Edmonds, College Place, Lynnwood, Lynndale and Meadowdale elementary schools.

  1. Lynndale Elementary was proudly and very well represented by several 4th, 5th and 6th grade students who participated in the showcase. They worked long and hard as part of the Lynndale After School program to create projects of which we are all proud. Please fact check to make sure no school and no students are left out! Thank you!
