From the Publisher’s Desk…

2013 TeresaWelcome to the redesigned My Edmonds News! We hope you enjoy features of our new look, which we think serves both our readers and our advertisers better.

– Mobile-friendly. Now, when you visit My Edmonds News on your mobile device, you will notice all news scrolling in a one-column format — in large type, with all site features easy to access, including advertising.

– Better site navigation. We are still tweaking this somewhat, but we are streamlining our categories and putting them at the top, so stories are easier to find.

– Larger photos, without clicking on them to enlarge. See beautiful scenic photos at full size.

– Easy top links to Facebook, Twitter and all My Neighborhood News Network sites.

– An enhanced Twitter feed that includes tweets from all three of our MNNN sites — Edmonds, Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace.

We are continuing to work on the design this week, and will have some more features to add, but please let us know what you think!

Sincerely,

Teresa Wippel, Publisher

  1. Hi! For me, it seems the type on My Edmonds News is now far smaller making it nearly impossible to read (like My Lynnwood News has been) on my iPhone. I’d like to keep readiing My Edmonds News! I’m not a fan of the new changes, yet.

  2. I like the new format but the typeset seems to be gray, rather than standard black and, for me, is not as easy to read.

  3. Opened this on my PC this morning. There are no paragraph breaks in the copy and I have to expand my Outlook window to read across. Long entries like Students of the Month are an unreadable text dump. Really needs some paragraph spacing and limit the width to 76 characters and it will be fine. Best outcome is for the photography entries as they are in full column expansion.
Also checked on my iPhone. I’m with Jennifer — one needs a magnifying glass to see the type — does not seem to be mobile-ready as is not wrapping to single column. Good luck!

    1. Please know that many of these concerns are related to the newsletter, rather than the site itself — It is a glitch we are working to address. Appreciate all the comments. Thanks!

  4. I preferred the format of My Edmonds News as it was previously. On my desktop PC, the type is no larger now, but the lines are muchlonger, so I have to widen my display to full screen to view the text. Previously, the text lines were not as long, and they were easy to read, even in a narrow window. To my perception, the result of the change is just the opposite of what I would have expected from your comment.

  5. The new format makes long paragraphs almost IMPOSSIBLE to read! Please provide paragraphing or return to shorter lines to make the display easier to read.

  6. FOnt is too small and print is too light. NOT an improvement ! I cant read it this way and I really like to read your news!

  7. I like the new look – very nice design and articles taking up more space, appropriately, and ads less. Maybe some instructions on how to make type bigger for those who need that tool. Sounds like just a little tweaking and it will be perfect!

  8. Just bought my first smart phone and not yet up to speed so still viewing my edmonds news on my big screen desktop. I understand the technology driver for a format change but agree that single column, wide text is hard to consume but absolutely LOVE the effect on the sunset photos. Even if I have watched it myself, the next day photos always show something additional so please keep these big and beautiful shots coming – can’t get enough.

  9. I like to read the recent reader comments and much preferred the old format where the topic being commented on was included with each comment. That way I could choose whether to open and read the full comment. Thanks.

  10. This is an adjustment. Will need to o[pen any articles I think I want to view since the new format has so much text and no paragraph breaks. I imagine you are in transition, so I’ll give it time.

    1. Please note that these are glitches with the daily newsletter format (which we are fixing) unrelated to the site itself. Thanks for all comments.

  11. New format is not working well for me, either on I-phone or desktop. Every story has text headline appearing twice. Everything seems crammed in to left column. Eye appeal has declined with lack of even a single photo.

    1. Hi Pete – assume you are referring to daily newsletter — we are experiencing technical issues and are working to fix.

  12. One thing I found out tonight is that if you are using an IPad, you need to have it in landscape mode to see all of the features on pages. I couldn’t see them when I had the Ipad in portrait mode then, voila! once I rotated it to portrait mode.
