Updated information: If you would like to make a donation to Martino-Crew’s fund for the People To People Student Ambassador trip to Australia, you may do so at this donor link.
Sophia Martino-Crew, a fifth grader at Chase Lake Elementary, has been selected to join the People to People Student Ambassador Australia program on a 15-day educational journey that will include historical sites and famous landmarks. She will also spend time with Aboriginal native people and learn about marine biology by snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef.
To raise money for expenses, Martino-Crew is hosting a fundraiser at the Edmonds Theater on Friday, April 19 (an EDS no-school Friday), with a showing of the tween favorite, Pitch Perfect (PG-13). Tickets are $5 and available here. According to Martino-Crew, “Pitch Perfect is my favorite movie of all time and I think that it would be a great comedy for all ages. All my friends and I have seen it and we know all the songs. I want people to come and sing out loud and dance in their seats.”
When asked how she was selected to join the People to People Student Ambassador Australia program, Martino-Crew said, “A teacher nominated me and then I had to get interviewed. I think that people should know that when I go to Australia…I will be representing Edmonds and I hope you give me the chance to give my best impression.”
Thank you for being such a fine student and citizen. I’m sure you will represent Edmonds and Washington State well. Travel safely!
