The Donor Closet is “the Heartbeat of MS Helping Hands.” We provide new and used good, clean, durable medical and mobility equipment that will enhance the quality of life for people with specific medical needs. Our items are available to ANYONE!  Not just those who have MS.  What an incredible resource when your resources are scarce or find yourself or a loved one with a disability.

We accept donations of good clean useable Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and Mobility Equipment (ME). We then recycle them to people who can’t afford to purchase them as new and/or are going through financial misfortunes. Many folks have been denied these items by Medicare, Medicaid, DSHS, insurance companies and other various services – not to mention the approval process can take a very long time.

The Donor Closet does not give, sell, rent, or loan these items.  But accepts suggested minimum donations to help defray the monthly operating expenses and help those with MS and others. We also have a variety of partners to help us with funding such as employee gift programs and grants, but of course the need is always greater.

The Donor Closet Staff is not trained to evaluate a person’s medical needs, so folks should first see his/her doctor, PT or OT prior to visiting the Donor Closet. The staff will then instruct the recipient on the proper use of the items

There are over 25 volunteers at the Donor Closet and we are looking for more!

  • Our Volunteers pick up donations (DME’S & ME’S) as well as deliver the equipment to clients if necessary.
  • The volunteer’s clean, repair/ rebuild and install new batteries to every Donated Scooter and Power Chair in the facility.

We don’t waste anything!  If the items are not fixable (useable) we scrap out what we can and we use the parts for rebuilding other units on sight. We maintain a good inventory of used and new items.

Education and Support:

Currently we host and sponsor three Multiple Sclerosis support groups that serve Snohomish and King counties. We meet monthly, providing speakers with information of upcoming events, information on new medical findings and providing a great place to meet new and really nice people. More information is on our website www.mshelp.org.

Our Sno/King meetings are very special meetings.  They’re not only for folks living with MS, but also the meetings include a 30 minute session just for the care givers and/ or family members, of folks living with MS.

Direct Financial Assistance: ($385,000 so far)

We supply direct financial assistance to folks living with MS that reside in the state of Washington, who are undergoing financial misfortunes.

The assistance is provided in two different areas.  Direct financial assistance to folks living with MS, along with assistance for Durable Medical equipment. Financial assistance is provided on a case by case basis. Apply for assistance by going on www.mshelp.org or calling the Donor Closet for an application.
