Ninth Avenue was closed for about an hour Thursday afternoon after a head-on collision in front of the Edmonds Memorial Cemetery spilled gallons of oil and antifreeze onto the roadway .

Edmonds Police Officer Paulson was on the scene helping to direct the cleanup. He described the accident.

“At about 1:45 p.m. a northbound car drifted into the southbound lanes and collided head on with an oncoming vehicle,” he said. “Both airbags deployed, and both drivers were wearing seat belts. We don’t know at this time if drugs or alcohol were involved.”

The driver of the northbound car was taken to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the southbound car walked away unharmed.

Ninth Avenue reopened to traffic at approximately 2:45 pm.
