Summer intensive XFit camp for Edmonds School District youth with weight issues, health risks

Youth ages 11-14 living in the Edmonds School District boundaries who have weight issues, are inactive or have significant health risks are eligible to participate in a summer intensive X-Fit fitness camp, funded by the Verdant Health Commission.

It’s a chance to get in shape, learn the tools and nutritional habits necessary for healthy weight control, feel good, raise self esteem and meet new friends — and it’s free.

Call 425-771-0230 to sign up or learn more.

Campers will participate in strength and conditioning using CrossFit exercises specifically designed for youth. All workouts will include talks about nutrition.

Camp runs for eight weeks, starting July 8 through Aug. 30. Workouts are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for one hour in an assigned time slot (9-10 a.m., 11 a.m.-noon or 2-3 p.m). Campers may miss only one week of camp with advanced notice.

The camp is held at CrossFit Industrious, 21619 Hwy 99, Suite H, Lynnwood (kitty-corner from Value Village; on Community Transit bus route).

Parents must attend four evening nutrition classes (July 11 and 25, Aug. 8 and 22). Getting parents involved and teaching them new eating habits, how to grocery shop and how to prepare healthier meals will give their child a greater chance of establishing healthier habits. Each camper’s family receives one small weekly produce box that include fruits and vegetables. Pick up produce boxes (labeled with camper’s name) Wednesdays after class.
