At its May 10 meeting, VFW Post 8870 and its Ladies Auxiliary installed newly elected officers who will assume their year-long terms in June, and also presented a donation to an Eagle Scout candidate.

Fred Apgar was installed as Commander of Post 8870, and this will be his second year of serving in that capacity. Under Apgar’s leadership, the post has experienced significant growth in membership, enhanced fundraising efforts to increase support to veterans in need, and expanded the post’s visibility in community programs.

The newly installed officers for VFW Post # 8870 are:

Commander Fred Apgar
Senior Vice Commander Chris Edwards
Junior Vice Commander Jim Blossey
Quartermaster Dennis Peterson
Surgeon Al Boyett
Chaplain “Rock” Roth
Judge Advocate Ron Clyborne
Third Year Trustee Tom Hallums

Arlene Endresse will continue to serve in her capacity as President of the Ladies Auxiliary, a position she held last year. The newly installed officers of the Ladies Auxiliary are:

President Arlene Endresse
Sr. Vice President Julie Pounds
Jr. Vice President Mela Whedo
Secretary Constance Dail
Treasurer Charline Larson
Chaplain Nancy Diedrich
Conductress Julie Pounds
Guard Mela Wheldon

Prior to the installation of officers, the post presented a $150 donation to Tom Maxson, who is a senior at Edmonds-Woodway High School. A Boy Scout, Tom is close to completing all requirements to become an Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout project, he will be repairing the playhouse at the Alderwood Early Childhood Center. The donation will assist in the purchase of the building supplies he will need to complete the project.
