Bail set at $750,000 for Edmonds man accused of trying to snatch 4 1/2-year-old boy in Seattle

A King County District Court judge found probable cause Monday to hold a 35-year-old Edmonds man on investigation of second-degree kidnapping for allegedly trying to snatch a 4½-year-old boy from his family during a charity event Sunday at Seattle Center, our online news partner The Seattle Times reported.

Tra Young, who also goes by the name Vuong Thanh Tra, waived his appearance before Judge Johanna Bender on Monday.

King County Senior Deputy Prosecutor Steven Kim asked that Young’s bail be set at $2 million, while defense attorney Maureen McKee requested that Young be held on investigation of fourth-degree assault with bail set at $20,000. Citing “scant evidence” in the Seattle police report, McKee said it was a “huge stretch” to hold the suspect on investigation of kidnapping. Bender, however, disagreed and set Young’s bail at $750,000.
