Starting in June, the Kiwanis Club of Edmonds’ annual berry sale kicks into action. This fundraiser helps Kiwanis serve local children.
As in the past, the club offers mouthwatering and healthy strawberries and blueberries, and getting your share of fresh berries is easy, the club notes. You can order using this order form or by contacting the Kiwanis’ Clayne Leitner (206-542-6351) and asking that an order form be mailed to you. Note that the berries are pre-ordered and prepaid only.
The first deadline for ordering fresh picked, washed and unsweetened berries is June 25. Here are delivery dates and prices: Strawberries – June 26 ($33/15 lb.pail, in juice)
Blueberries – July 24 ($31/10 lb. box, dry packed)
Leitner says the berries are purchased fresh from Mike and Jean’s Berry Farm near Mount Vernon. The berries are juicy and great for shortcakes, smoothies, syrups, jams and jelly, and many of your favorite recipes. ”They are especially handy for reunions, swim meets, family celebrations and picnics,” the Kiwanis Club says.
All the profits from this annual project support Kiwanis programs for Edmonds-area children, including the purchase and distribution of dictionaries to all Edmonds third graders, and bicycle helmets to ensure children have needed protection. Proceeds also help fund other important services for children including Clothes for Kids, Northwest School for the Hearing Impaired, The Little Red School House, Edmonds Boys & Girls Club, Children’s Hospital Foundation (via the Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program), Dale Turner YMCA, Key Clubs at Edmonds-Woodway and Meadowdale high schools, and student scholarships.
In addition, anyone interested in community service, especially for children, is invited to attend one of the club’s weekly meetings, held at the Pancake Haus in downtown Edmonds at noon each Tuesday. The club also has an evening meeting at 6:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the Windermere Office at 185th Avenue Northeast in Shoreline.
