City Council votes to rescind support for Metropolitan Park District ballot measure in November

Following the recommendation of citizens from an advisory committee formed to study the measure, the Edmonds City Council unanimously decided Tuesday night to rescind a resolution they passed in May of this year supporting placement of a Metropolitan Park District measure on this November’s ballot.

Timing was a major reason cited for not putting the measure before voters this year, as committee members noted that there wasn’t sufficient time to educate the public prior to the election. In addition, the committee cited the ongoing need to address the city’s aging streets, and that should take precedence over parks.

In another park-related matter, the council unanimously passed a revised ordinance establishing park impact fees for developers who build new single- and multi-family homes and businesses. Edmonds Mayor Dave Earling had vetoed the previously passed ordinance because of concerns over its impact on small businesses.

The council also approved proposed bylaws for the Edmonds Downtown Business Improvement District Interim Members Advisory Board.
