The City of Edmonds announced Tuesday that plans have come together for an expanded play area and spray feature to City Park, located at 3rd and Pine.

The nearly $1.35 million project includes an expanded footprint of the play area, complete replacement of aging play equipment, and addition of a 5000 square-foot spray play area.  Funding comes from the following sources:

– A $500,000 matching grant from the Washington State Recreation Conservation Office, that will be paired with $500,000 from the City’s 2013 Parks Capital budget.

– $80,000 from a recent Snohomish County bond sale.

– $270,000 from the Hazel Miller Foundation, divided over two years. “The City is very thankful and appreciative of this recent award, and plans to name the spray area after Hazel Miller,” the news release said.

The project is currently in design, and barring any unanticipated issues, will be built during March-May 2014, the city said.
