The Edmonds man suspected of stabbing his ex-wife to death in her Bellevue home on June 17 and then fleeing to California has been extradited to King County to stand trial, according to the King County Prosecutor’s Office.
Our online news partner The Seattle Times reported Wednesday that Aleksandr Polak is accused of stabbing Nataliya Vabishchevich, 35, repeatedly with a knife in the head, neck, hands, arms and chest — 72 times in all — in her Bellevue apartment while their teenage son was at school.
Vabishchevich was found by a co-worker who went to check on her when she didn’t show up to work. The co-worker arrived at Vabishchevich’s apartment around noon, and when she opened the door, she found her body in a bloody black bathrobe, police said.
In charging documents that the Times linked to, Polak told police that at the time of his ex-wife’s murder, he was living the basement of a private Edmonds residence, located in the 7700 block of 236th Street Southwest, and went swimming at Richmond Beach Saltwater Park during the time that his ex-wife was killed. You can read more details in the charging documents here and in The Times story here.
