More than 450 people showed up at Marina Beach on Tuesday to participate in Edmonds’ annual sand sculpting contest.
Any sculpture was allowed, as long as it remained family-friendly. Each winner took home a bucket of saltwater taffy donated by Nama’s Candy Store.
The top two winners and honorable mention for each category are as follows:
Children (ages 14 & under with no adults)
-“Sand Castle: moat, gate and shield” by Robert and Ian of Lynnwood
-“Beauty of the Sea: portrait of a beautiful woman” by Iris and Talia of Seattle
Honorable Mention: “Messengers: three towers, bridge and large moat” by Ava and Audrey Messinger of Edmonds
Adult/Family Group (all ages)
– “Leo the Lion: July 23 first day of Leo Zodiak sign” by Brooke Smith and Courtney Rogers of Snohomish
– “Myhippisaur: mythical creature stalking Edmonds beaches” by the Lemon Family of Brier and Edmonds
Honorable Mention: “The Weirdest Thing: man dragging himself free from giant seaweed” by Leah n’ Helen of Seattle
Day Camp/Daycare/Large Group
– “The Hammerhead Shark” by Kamp Kookamunga Group 3 of Lynnwood
– “The Tortoise: basking in the sun” by Kamp Kookamunga Group 1 of Lynnwood
Honorable Mention: “Crab City” by Tulalip Montessori of Tulalip
