The Edmonds Moms Facebook group, started by Edmonds mom of four Cymmie Knutsen, is hosting an Edmonds Moms Walk at 5 p.m. next Thursday, Aug. 22. The starting and ending place is the Edmonds United Methodist Church, and the fundraising walk will support an Edmonds MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group that will start meeting at the church this fall.
According to walk organizer Kate Nichols, the online member-only group is “dedicated to mom-related needs (recommendations for pediatricians, child development advice, marriage advice, product trading and selling etc.)” and now has more than 2,000 Northend moms who belong, most of them Edmonds residents.
Next Thursday’s walk will provide “an opportunity to meet/ socialize with a group that they supported by through the year but only online,” Nichols said. “I think a lot of Edmonds Moms feel like they’ve had at least one experience where the group was a lifesaver and I think there’s value in getting people face to face.”
Anyone is welcome to participate in the event. Cost is $25 per mom (accompanying family is free), or businesses are welcome to sponsor a mom for $100. All participating businesses will get their name listed on the walk t-shirt. Moms and businesses can visit the walk website to register, and need to do so by this Sunday, Aug. 18 to be listed on the shirt. You can register for the event here.
The walk will conclude with a picnic dinner on the field at the church, located at 828 Caspers St.
