Yes, I want want to support My Edmonds News! The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is seeking volunteers in Edmonds, Lynwood and Mountlake Terrace – walkers, cancer survivors, caregivers, community leaders or anyone wanting to make a difference – to organize and recruit fundraising teams, garner community support, coordinate logistics, seek refreshments and prizes, plan entertainment and lend a hand to ensure the success of the 2014 event.
A Volunteer Interest Night has been set for Tuesday, Sept. 10 at the Edmonds Library at 6 p.m. to share information about volunteer opportunities at Relay For Life of Edmonds/Lynnwood (formerly Relay For Life of South Snohomish).
Relay For Life of Edmonds/Lynnwood is held overnight as individuals and teams camp out at Edmonds Stadium with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track at all times throughout the evening. The event goes all night to symbolize a cancer patient’s fight against the disease. Teams do most of their fundraising prior to the event, but some teams also hold creative fundraisers at their camp sites during the event. The 2013 Relay For Life in Edmonds had over 350 participants on 39 teams and raised over $64,000.
Those interested in joining the Relay For Life in Edmonds/Lynnwood as a volunteer or team participant, can contact local American Cancer Society representative Megan Ashbaugh at 206-674-4177, or email her at megan.ashbaugh@cancer.org.
