Award-winning author Gloria Kempton will visit the Edmonds Library on Monday, Sept. 16, at 11 a.m, as part of the EPIC Group speaker series. Kempton, a teacher with Writer’s Digest School, will discuss the writing and publishing process for her book, ‘The Outlaw’s Journey: A Mythological Approach to Storytelling.”

Kempton’s talk will touch on the outlaw archetype in books and society. As a preview, Kempton said, “We all play a role in this (outlaw) process, but writers play a special role in challenging readers to resist society’s stereotypes by portraying the outlaw archetype for what it is: a character who challenges conventional wisdom, especially as it’s revealed in a story’s protagonist. The outlaw archetype provokes the protagonist so that her own shadow emerges and so she can begin to integrate her light and dark side.”

Kempton’s talk will start after the Monday morning writing group with Janette Turner. Seating for the free event is limited to 20 people, on a first-come basis. For more information on this and other literary events, see EPIC Group.
