hero_sounder_455Sound Transit announced Thursday that starting Friday, Sept. 27, it will remove cars from the north line trains running between Everett and Seattle and add them to the south line trains between Seattle and Tacoma, which have substantially more riders.

The following north line trains will operate with two cars instead of three:

1700 leaving King Street Station at 4:05 p.m.
1702 leaving King Street Station at 4:33 p.m.
1705 leaving Everett at 6:45 a.m.
1707 leaving Everett at 7:15 a.m.

Even with some two-car trains, all north line passengers will have a seat, Sound Transit said.

  1. This seems inconsistent with Sound Transit’s recent decision to lease additional parking spaces from the Salish Crossing developer renovating the Waterfront Antique Mall property. I hope this doesn’t mean that Sound Transit is going to reduce its promotional effort aimed at encouraging Edmonds residents to take a second look at the Sounder train as a transportation alternative.

I just visited the new parking spaces out of curiosity and noted only 18 cars parked in the 103 additional parking spaces. I wanted to check it out before the first train arrives back home from Seattle this afternoon. One day is a totally inadequate sample size, but it is discouraging to see so few cars parked in those new parking spaces.
