My Edmonds News asked local high school coaches how their fall sports teams are shaping up. This report is from Nicole Bordeaux, volleyball coach at Edmonds-Woodway High School.

Years as head coach?
This is my fourth season as the head coach; 10th year in the program.

Last year’s record?
7-10 overall,  6-8 regular season, 5-5 in league

Postseason last year?
We went to districts and took 5th place.

Top returning athletes?
We only graduated two seniors last year, so we have the majority of our team coming back.
Seniors: Julia Hutchison, Sid Eck, Mikenna Vogel, Rebecca Sharp and Selena Eschen.
Juniors: Hanna Rehnfeldt, Kym Lundt, Lea Bakken and Maddie Judd.

Lea Bakken and Amanda Paavoloa.

Top newcomers?
Junior Shania Eschen and sophomore Amanda Paavola.

Each player of this team will play a key role in its success.  This is not a team where there is just one standout player … they are all incredible athletes and we will get to see a little piece of them each match.

Strengths of your team?
The dedication, determination and love for this game will be our strengths. There is an energy about this group of young women that will take them as far as they want to go.

What was the turnout like this year?
We had approximately 47 girls try out this year.  We had a good group of incoming freshman and we have high hopes for the future of this program!

Strong teams/individuals in the league?
This year the north and south will play each other once.  So it is hard to assess the league since we typically don’t play the north.  I am certain that Jackson, Kamiak and Snohomish will be our top contenders … as they always have strong programs.
