Edmonds School District Student Athletics and Activities Handbook revised

The Edmonds School District Athletic Department has clarified the time frame around the expectation of student conduct of students participating in extracurricular activities and participating on sports teams.

Student-Athlete behavior expectations are in effect for the entire school year, not just during the season the student is playing the sport or participating in activities. Students involved in athletics and activities perform and represent their schools in public and therefore should behave respectfully regardless of what time of the school year it is, Athletic Director Julie Stroncek said.

“We have also changed the penalty for the first offense of the athletic code,” Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Dr. Patrick Murphy said. “While the penalty is still a 45 calendar day suspension from participation, a student can now be eligible to return to playing in games in 14 days. This is a reduction from the previous mandatory exclusion of 23 days. This more closely aligns us with most districts in our region.”

Citing the newly-revised handbook: “Students are expected to conduct themselves at all times in a manner that will reflect the high standards and ideals of their activity, team, school, and community.”

At parent meetings prior to the start of the upcoming Winter sports season, the clarification and any changes will be shared with families. For more information, review the Athletic Handbook here.
