The Living Well with Diabetes workshop will be offered at the Edmonds Senior Center beginning Oct. 28.
The 6 week series meets from 12:30-3 p.m. on Mondays, Oct. 28 – Dec. 9 (no class on Nov. 11), and teaches critical skills that help people with diabetes manage their condition and live their best life.
Workshop topics include:
· creating healthy food plans,
· preventing low blood sugar,
· physical activity,
· glucose monitoring,
· managing medications,
· how to work with health care providers,
· goal-setting and problem-solving.
This Stanford University-developed workshop is the “sister” to the Living Well with Chronic Conditions workshop but with topics specifically focused on diabetes. Since 2011, countless Snohomish County residents have taken The Living Well with Chronic Conditions workshops and consistently report that since taking the course they:
-have increased the number of number of weekly minutes of physical activity
a-re more confident that they can keep symptoms from interfering with the things they want to do
-and that they have been able to spend more time on activities with family and friends, hobbies and everyday tasks like shopping and running errands.
