Speed, driver impairment indicated in Kent accident that killed Edmonds woman early Sunday

A 21-year-old Edmonds woman died early Sunday morning when the car she was riding in struck a telephone pole in the 24800 block of 148th Avenue SE in Kent, our online news partner The Seattle Times reported.

The driver, a 21-year-old Covington man, was driving the woman’s car and was taken to Harborview Medical Center where he is in critical condition, the Kent police reported.

According to the Seattle Times, Kent police said that the woman died before police and firefighters arrived at the one-car accident. The police report said the driver lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the roadway to the opposite shoulder before it hit the telephone pole at the front passenger door. The police preliminary investigation indicated speed and possible driver impairment were contributing factors.
