In My Edmonds News‘ quest to find the best holiday gift, we came across the family history services of Maggie Fimia. Here, she tells us all about turning boxes of photos into gift-worthy books and posters.
“The Holidays are a perfect time to sit down with older family members and ask them about what life was like when they were growing up. It’s also an opportunity to pull out family photos and talk about the people and stories that are part of our family history. Not only is it fun and meaningful, but there is a growing body of evidence that the more children know about their families, the more secure they feel and the better they feel about themselves. My business, Welcome Home Family History Services, helps families preserve their heritage by discovering, preserving and telling their family stories.
“I help provide families the tools to get started so that people achieve their goals for finding, organizing, restoring and preserving family photos, documents, letters, videos, audio tapes, slides and memorabilia. Some people just need an hour of instruction on how the different search engines and programs work, some ask me to do most of the project with input from them. Every project, just like every family, is different.
“The fun part is taking those photos, letters, etc.,and turning them into family tree posters, photo story books, DVD’s that the kids can watch and learn about their ancestors and digital recordings that preserve the voices of our loved ones.
“Every family has a compelling story that needs to be told. This holiday season, take the opportunity to get started on telling yours.Check the website for some “How To” tips.”
