The Edmonds-based Gothard Sisters announced Tuesday that the Irish singing and folk-dancing trio has been named the Best New Irish Artist in the 6th annual Irish Music Awards.

The Gothard Sisters were honored as a rising talent in the lively Irish music world along with a host of other great names in Irish music, including fellow award winners the Cheiftains, Runa, Moya Brennan, the Dubliners, Keith Harkin, Phil Coulter and the Fighting Jamesons. The award was announced during a Saturday ceremony held by the Irish Music Association, which is dedicated to preserving Irish music and culture in Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the U.S.

“The Gothard Sisters bring a new dynamic to the Celtic circuit,” said Keith Doherty of the Jacksonville Celtic Festival in Jacksonville, Fla. “Their onstage charisma, energy, enthusiasm and extraordinary talent is second to none…these artists will no doubt take the world by storm.”

  1. How wonderful. These young artists have been playing in Edmonds for some years as they have been growing up. We are so lucky to have seen their expertise grow and mature. They are a delight. They deserve all they achieve as they have diligently worked hard towards being better artists. Well done!!
