It’s hard to believe that they started out as little Farmers Market buskers – but that is how most locals remember Greta, Solana and Willow Gothard before they left hometown Edmonds to begin a whirlwind life of touring.
My Edmonds News has just received a very exciting announcement!
This lovely, talented trio, who perform as The Gothard Sisters, are returning for a Homecoming Show this month! Their dazzling performance of dance, fiddling, tunes – and more – will take place at Third Place Books in close-by Lake Forest Park on Saturday, July 19. Their performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in The Commons, 17171 Bothell Way N.E.
This will be their first homecoming show since their recognition as “Best New Irish Artists” at the 6th annual Irish Music Awards in January. Of their performance at the music awards an attendee from Florida’s Jacksonville Celtic Festival said, “Their onstage charisma, energy, enthusiasm and extraordinary talent is second to none… these artists will no doubt take the world by storm.”
But between their Farmers Market exhibitions and their recognition as “Best New Irish Artists” there are a lot of stories of how they developed into the exciting stage presence that we will enjoy at their Homecoming Show.
As youngsters Greta, Solana and Willow were inspired by the show “Riverdance” which features Irish step dancing and soon after were enrolled by their mother in Seattle’s Comerford School of Irish Dance. As extraordinary as they are at playing the fiddle, they were soon equally brilliant at step dancing; so much so they eventually competed in the 2007 World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. The three came in a noteworthy Second Place in the competition – quite admirable for a U.S. troupe.
My Edmonds News featured The Gothard Sisters in an exclusive interview four years ago. Their responses to our questions were insightful, and also quite darling! https://myedmondsnews.com/2010/12/on-the-road-and-at-home-edmonds-sisters-stay-in-tune-in-step/
But that isn’t the end of the good news! On December 11th The Gothard Sisters will perform a Christmas show at Edmonds Center for the Arts. The sisters invite the community to their “giant Christmas Bash!” Tickets for the holiday show can be obtained here.
You can follow the exuberant pace of The Gothard Sisters at their website.
