Artfully Edmonds brief: Just added to ECA lineup — ETHEL and Hey Marseilles

ECA logo in mauveExciting news from Edmonds Center for The Arts! These brand new listings have been added to the ECA line-up. There’s a reason that Edmonds is fast becoming the Arts and Events destination of Puget Sound:

Edmonds Center for The Arts
410 4th Ave.
ETHEL plus Kaki King
Thursday, Oct. 30 ~ 7:30 p.m.

Described as “indefatigable and eclectic” (The New York Times) and “vital and brilliant” (The New Yorker), the string quartet ETHEL continues to be a pacesetter of post-classical music. Formed in 1998, the New York City-based ETHEL comprises Ralph Farris (viola), Dorothy Lawson (cello), Kip Jones (violin) and Tema Watstein (violin). Balancing their iconoclastic, explosive style with tender reverence for works of great beauty, ETHEL presents a program which delves energetically into the fallibility of human memory and the mutability of the past.

Hailed by Rolling Stone as “a genre unto herself,” Kaki King is a true iconoclast, a visionary musician/artist whose singular work rightly stands out amongst the easily formatted. Over her decade-long career thus far, the Brooklyn-based guitarist/composer has recorded five extraordinarily diverse and distinctive LPs, performed with such icons as Foo Fighters, Timbaland, and The Mountain Goats, contributed to a variety of film and TV soundtracks (spanning Golden Globe-nominated work on Sean Penn’s Into The Wild to scoring — and appearing in as guitar-playing hand double — the acclaimed 2007 drama, August Rush), and played to ever-growing audiences on innumerable world tours.

Hey Marseilles
Sunday, Nov. 2 ~ 7:30 p.m.

To Travels & Trunks unveiled Hey Marseilles’ orchestral sound in December 2008 as a chamber pop group. The band appeared at a variety of festivals the following year including CMJ, South by Southwest, and Bumbershoot.

Hey Marseilles subsequently attracted the attention of the Starbucks coffee chain, which included one of the band’s songs on a compilation, Sweethearts, Vol. 2, in early 2010.

Three years later Hey Marseilles made appearances at Lollapalooza, the Newport Folk Festival, and the Firefly Music Festival, among others.

They have now signed with ECA to bring their music to the Arts Destination of Puget Sound – Edmonds!

ECA offers $5.00 off per each “Adult” ticket. The online Box Office link for Hey Marseilles is here.
