Scene in Edmonds: Classroom in the forest

Third graders from Westgate Elementary listen to Barb Drake, one of six rangers from the City of Edmonds, who taught “Discover The Forest” on a hike through Yost Park earlier this month. Students enjoyed exploring the trails and observing the plants and animals under the guidance of a park ranger. They saw woodpeckers, beetles, spiders, worms, different kinds of moss, salmonberry plants, shelf fungus, and many other interesting living things. They also learned about decomposition, the cycle of the forest, and plant/soil ecology.
