Scene in Edmonds: Oh, deer

Mike McAuliffe was driving down Maplewood toward Main Street Thursday when he says he saw something coming down the sidewalk. "My first reaction was, “What a big dog,” but as I got closer it turned out to be a deer," he said. The deer headed into a vacant lot on Maplewood where a house had recently been torn down and McAuliffe took this photo while the animal enjoyed a lunchtime snack. "I have lived a few blocks off Maplewood for 15 years and this was the first time I have seen a deer in the area," he said.

  1. Mike sent me an e-mail about his deer sighting as I live only a few blocks from him. I’m glad he got the shot. I recently caught a glimpse of one near the retention pond at the end of the Pt. Edwards walkway below the condos.

  2. There are 5 that make an appearance, once in awhile, on the berm by Building 41 at Point Edwards. I have quite a few good pictures of them.

  3. I believe this would be the same guy that has been hanging around Talbot Road as well. Unfortunately I’ve seen him in the middle of the road three different times. I hope he finds a companion and sticks to the woods!

  4. My husband saw the deer on the corner of Ninth, as he seemed to be heading for Driftwood Lane. Hard to imagine him avoiding all the traffic in the area.

  5. I live up at 220th and 90th West, and the neighbor across the street saw it walk up in my yard last night about 10pm, and she didn’t see it leave…I have woods on my parcel in back and there’s a large pond a couple parcels down surrounded with woods…I hope it safely finds its home.
