The Whitfield family, who prefer to be known as Team Hot Stuff, ducked in out of the rain to study their map prior to the start of the event.

Edmonds’ second annual Street Scramble got off to a wet start on Saturday morning, but the rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the participants.

“We have about 100 folks taking part today,” said Carrie Hite, Edmonds Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Director. “Most signed up early, but we’ve had quite a few drop-ins. Kind of surprising with the rainy weather!”

Street Scramble participants follow a map to a number of pre-identified locations where they find clues to help them answer a question about the site. The questions are devised by the event organizers, and participants gain points based on the number of correct answers.

The Edmonds Street Scramble is put on by the Parks Department and Meridian Geographics, better known as MerGEO, a Seattle-based company specializing in orienteering and navigation-based sports.
