Two teams from Edmonds-Woodway High School took 3A District 1 championship titles Saturday — and both are bound for state tournaments in their respective sports.
The volleyball team beat Marysville-Pilchuck 25-22, 27-25, 20-25, 25-22 at Marysville-Pilchuck High School. The Warriors (13-4) were led by Amanda Paavola with 23 kills, Kelly Gootee with 52 assists and Maddie Judd with seven kills and five blocks. Brackets for the volleyball tournament, which starts Friday at Saint Martin’s University and Timberline High School in Lacey, will be released on Sunday.
The girls soccer team earned a 1-0 shutout over Shorewood, with Hailey Hull scoring the winning goal. Kiera Towell was in the goal for the Warriors (15-3-0). Edmonds-Woodway will meet Auburn Mountainview in the first round of the state tournament.
