The Edmonds Police Department on Monday announced the hiring of two new police officers. Both are scheduled to begin the police academy in late December.
The first, Nicholas Haughian, grew up in Marysville and attended the University of Washington on a baseball scholarship. He was drafted as a pitcher into the Baltimore Orioles organization, where he played until 2012. Haughian most recently worked as a program developer for a company that finds employment for at-risk youth. He has a wife and two children.
The second, Dietrich Borst, grew up in the Renton area where he was a high school athlete in wrestling and soccer. He also earned his Eagle Scout through Boy Scouts of America with a focus on projects for community parks. Dietrich is a recent graduate of Central Washington University and has worked for the Home Depot.
The new officers are filling existing vacancies within the organization, the announcement said, and the department is still working to fill two other vacancies caused by attrition.
Congratulations to our newest officers.
