Edmonds police detectives are continuing their investigation into the shooting of an intruder in North Edmonds early Thanksgiving morning.
The initial investigation did show that the 22-year-old suspect had been drinking, Edmonds police spokesman Mark Marsh said Friday morning. “One of the theories the detectives are looking into is the possibility of the suspect being at the wrong house.”
Police said that a 33-year-old Edmonds woman at home with her husband and children shot the man in the abdomen as he tried to force his way into their house in the 16400 block of 75th Avenue West at 3:15 a.m. Thursday.
A passerby at the shooting scene Thursday said that the home where the shooting took place was a rental, and the family had moved in just a few months earlier.
According to Marsh, the woman had called 9-1-1 prior to the suspect forcing his way into the house. Officers arrived at the house soon after the call had been placed. The man was transported to Harborview Medical Center, where he is being treated for the gunshot wound.
Marsh said he hasn’t yet received an update on the suspect’s condition, but added that police detectives plan to interview him once his medical condition has stabilized.
Scary stuff. You’d think your key not working in the front door would be a pretty good tipoff you had the wrong house regardless of how drunk you are.
I heard that he was going to visit his friends that had just moved out of the house….
…and decided to break down the door when someone he didn’t recognize answered it and told him to go away?
I have no idea what actually happened but that scenario doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.
