Seattle-based Starbucks Coffee has been issued a building permit for a new coffee shop adjacent to the Walgreen’s store on Edmonds Way in the Westgate neighborhood, according to Shane Hope, City of Edmonds Director of Development Services.
According to Hope, Starbucks has expressed a desire to add a drive-through window to the new store, but this is not included in the existing building permit.
“The proposed drive-through component requires a conditional use permit,” said Hope, “and decisions on these go to the City’s Hearing Examiner and require a public hearing.”
The Starbucks drive-through proposal public hearing is scheduled for Dec. 18 at 3 p.m. in the Edmonds City Council Chambers, 250 5th Ave. N.
It is not known at this point whether Starbucks will maintain the existing corporate store on the southwest corner of 9th Avenue and Edmonds Way once the new store opens. The franchise shop in the Westgate QFC will likely be unaffected.

I don’t have any particular antipathy towards Starbucks, but I thought it was ridiculous when they opened a second location across the street from the first. What comes after “ridiculous?” Redonkulous?
From what I gather from one of the corporate store employees, it will close when the new location opens. I wondered if the new location was going to have a drive thru window.
