Two members of the Edmonds Police department who pulled a man from a burning building in Edmonds were recognized Thursday by the American Red Cross at its annual Real Heroes Breakfast.

Corporal Ken Crystal and Officer Earl Yamane were named “Real Heroes” for their life-saving efforts during the rescue of a 67-year old man from a burning condominium on April 21, 2013. The officers had responded to the scene and were told that there was an unconscious male inside one of the units. Both officers entered the burning residence and pulled the victim to safety. They then re-entered the residence to see if anyone else needed help.

“When the emerged from the burning structure, Corporal Crystal then began CPR on the male patient until the fire department and medics arrived,” said Edmonds Police Department spokesman Sgt. Josh McClure.

Thursday’s ceremony also bought attention to other significant lifesaving efforts of citizens and first responders from around Snohomish County.
