Edmonds resident Denise Marinacci said she was ready to create her own happiness after all the recent bad news being reported — from Ferguson to New York City to Pakistan. So from 5-6:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Marinacci is inviting all those interested to join her in a “Happiness Sprinkling” next to the Edmonds ferry dock.
“I can’t wait for anyone else to be the change I want to see in the world, I need to be that change,” Marinacci said.
You can learn more on the movement’s website here, but in essence, Happiness Sprinkling is where people bring signs bearing positive messages, with the idea of “Sprinkling Happiness all over the world.”
So wear yellow or another bright color and bring a sign of your choosing – hot cocoa will be served.
“My goal is to inspire the people getting on or off the ferry, people walking to and from the beach, everyone to know they can make a difference no matter how small,” Marinacci said.
This new age garbage is just inane. So they just stand their and hold signs? Why not plant a tree, or gather old clothes for the homeless.
Facebook generation, click the like button but god forbid you actually do any work to make the world a better place.
Yes, do the work to make the world a better place. We can all do that! We cannot change things if we do not know of it. There is a website and a magazine called GOOD. It covers all the positive changes and ideas people have for positive change in the world. Its about people thinking creatively ( like scientists (that aha!) or artists) and making real good change with positive ideas. It is amazing…….the good of many is happening all the time. This also helps us appreciate the younger generation who have so many new ideas for the good of the world…There are many not just using social media continuously for nothing…….Creative minds doing new creative things in every area. We are all going to be ok
This is a great idea. It is just like the Bible said, “give a sign to the poor, give a signed to the naked, give a sign to the homeless, give a sign to the widows and the orphans, give a sign to the least of these, give a sign to those who are in prison, give me a sign to your neighbor.” And what ever you do, do not feed them, clothe them, house them, care for them, visit them, or give them the best seat at your banquet for they are untouchables; they are unclean.
Just saw this video. I wonder if you took a poll of homeless people in our area and there are many, if they would have found this “springling” to be of any value, and usefulness, any pertinence, or any empathy found with branded signs. Seems like a slap in the face….. These people can afford to have these signs made, use their computers, wear their brightly colored clothes or take time out of their “work” day to show up for this. Many people (including the working poor, one out of 5 in our country living beneath poverty level), would find this insulting and pollyanish, which is how I find it……. I am reminded of M. Scott Peck (The Road Less Traveled) who said LOVE is not just an emotion or words, but work or an act of great courage…… That’s what love is.
To all of you who have replied so far, I just heard about this idea myself, but I would suggest that we be charitable during this season of love and hope and peace and think the best of folks who participate in this effort. We can’t make assumptions about what else any of these people who show up to hold signs have done to help others throughout the year. If they want to take an hour out of their day to bring a smile to someone else’s faces, that is certainly their right.
Well said Teresa!!
We are not in the video and we made our own signs. Getting someone to smile is an amazing thing!
Denise! I’ll be there standing WITH you — I so agree that individually we are change-agents for a more compassionate world.
Whether one works (rolls up their sleeves!) to solve the problems of homelessness; a recognition of diversity; for the #BlackLivesMatter movement — or just to END old fashioned Grouchiness — Move away from your screen and into the scene!
Yikes!! John Magnusson’s click-to link-back is a Code-Red “phishing site” ~ It might be that he is not even an Edmonds resident.
Thanks Emily Hill. I’ll have a cup of cocoa and a handmade sign for you. Lots of happy people giving a bit to others.
Why take any time to post such nasty comments about a woman who is offering cocoa and smiles? I am ashamed of the people who are assuming way too much about who Denise is and what she is about. I’m sorry I can’t be there tonight, Denise, but I very much hope you and your group bring many a smile to the passersby.
Merry Christmas …. and Happy New Year …and lest we forget…hashtag #BlueLivesMatter
Denise’s gathering just might–despite the grinches of the world–inspire a participant or bystander to take an action tomorrow or next week or next month to make the world a better place. Carry on, Denise! I’ll be with you in spirit.
thanks Denise for bringing some good and light to folks. I had previous plans or I would have been right beside you tonight. You have no idea whose life you touched tonight. With warm regards.
