A reminder that the Edmonds Hearing Examiner will hold a public hearing on Thursday, Dec. 18 regarding a proposal by Seven Hills Properties to build on a vacant lot next to the Edmonds Walgreens an approximately 2,126-square- foot building for a Starbucks with a drive-through lane.

Starbucks has been issued a building permit for a new coffee shop adjacent to the Walgreen’s  store on Edmonds Way in the Westgate neighborhood, according to Shane Hope, City of Edmonds Director of Development Services.

According to Hope, Starbucks has expressed a desire to add a drive-through window to the new store, but this is not included in the existing building permit.

“The proposed drive-through component requires a conditional use permit,” said Hope, “and decisions on these go to the City’s Hearing Examiner and require a public hearing.”

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. in the Edmonds Council Chambers, Public Safety Complex, located at 250 5th Ave. N., Edmonds.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting.

  1. This would mean that Starbucks would be on three corners (one offset) at this intersection. Isn’t that a monopoly. or at the least, overkill? There are much better coffees around than Starbucks. Give someone else an opportunity. I shop at Bartell’s, then drive into Edmonds to get good coffee or tea!

  2. John, don’t worry, they’ll probably use that as justification to put a second drive-through on the other side in three or four years. If they do, I think the city should just give up and rename it Starbucks Way.
