Every January people make resolutions for the upcoming year. Many of these resolutions involve getting healthy in terms of diet and fitness, but what about how you feel on the inside and how that radiates outwardly on your skin? This year, I challenge you to take a more holistic approach to your health- resolve to get healthy from the inside out by making changes that will impact your mind, body and soul.

Clear your mind… Stress can manifest itself on one’s appearance in many ways, primarily by making the skin more sensitive and more reactive. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, in order to ensure that your skin is at its best, keep your daily stressors in check as much as possible. Find something that allows you to release; for some people this is exercise, for others it might be keeping a journal. Find what works for you and pursue it daily.

Cleanse your body…Internally and externally, it is important to keep your body healthy in order to put your best face forward this year. Skip the trendy cleanses and focus on a diet that is achievable and offers long-term results. Strive to eat less processed and sugary foods, focusing on consuming fruits, vegetables and clean proteins. Pair healthy eating with consuming at least eight glasses of water daily. This will keep your body functioning normally and ensure that your skin has the necessary nutrients and hydration.

Cherish you soul…It is so easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of daily life, focusing on work, family, etc. Make time to focus on yourself every once in a while. Your New Year’s resolution to be healthier will help you achieve a healthy body, but even that can become tedious over time. Let yourself deviate from routine occasionally in order to nourish your soul, eat that piece of chocolate or take a hike instead of hitting the gym. Whatever it is that will help you center yourself and keep going, do it!

By taking a more holistic approach to your healthy resolutions this New Year, you will notice a difference in how you look and feel!
