Edmonds scenic: Video sunset

John Rumpelein got this video of Sunday’s stunning sunset via his quadcopter.

  1. No, they are not very cool at all.

Please think twice before your buzzing and voyeuristic technology interrupts others’ peaceful evenings.

Hopefully our State Legislature will severely limit their use as the issue is revisited in Olympia.

      1. Just an FYI that John told me he received permission from Port of Edmonds security before taking this video. John is very careful/respectful and is not buzzing around people’s homes.

  2. Since drones are such a new thing, I thought a little research might be in order.

Turns out “drone” is a catchall term that includes a wide variety of very different devices. Here’s a definition courtesy of Popular Science:

“‘Drone’ as a category refers to any unmanned, remotely piloted flying craft, ranging from something as small as a radio-controlled toy helicopter to the 32,000-pound, $104 million Global Hawk. If it flies and it’s controlled by a pilot on the ground, it fits under the everyday-language definition of drone.” (learn more here: https://www.popsci.com/technology/article/2013-03/drone-any-other-name)

For hobbyists, the most popular type of drone has four rotors, hence the name quadcopter. But some have six rotors (hexacopters), while others are designed with two rotors, similar to classic helicopters. (learn more about hobbyist drones here: https://myfirstdrone.com/tutorials/buying-guides/best-drones-for-sale/)

Love ’em or hate ’em, drones in all their various permutations are getting increasingly common and are fast becoming an everyday part of life. Will their use need to be regulated? Probably. When will this happen? I expect quite soon.

Link above to today’s news regarding the White House….not very funny…..I don’t think an 8 year old boy would think this funny or the reporting of it was by someone wearing a TIN FOIL hat……..and I’m surprised that nasty references made about people in this news service is left intact and not removed. I assume that this means that “bully” type of comments about people are ok depending on who you are. This being taught to children in Edmonds reading this source

Yes, these will be regulated very soon by the FAA……Obviously, they will not become an everyday part of life for everyone including criminals …..people that want to fly them over packed stadiums with whatever on board, planes/helicopters/small aircraft crashing because of “hobbyist” drones (many near misses already), robbers casing houses, spying on people, etc. …….

It is sad to me that something we have used (Drones) as remote controlled weapons to the Middle East that have actually killed innocent people (Pakistan comes to mine) and adults here think they should own them as toys. …….. Says everything……And the real joke is that these are being made and imported here by the thousands by the Chinese…..they know the FAA regulations are not on board yet.
