Dear Editor:
This is an email I sent to the City Council. It is my endorsement of Mr. Brown for the open seat.
Many of you know me and have had the pleasure ( or displeasure) of my opinions about various issues over the years. Agree or disagree, you have always taken the time to consider my concerns. This email is a bit different. I am excited about one of the applicants ( Mario Brown) for the Council and truly hope to see him appointed to the open seat.
I recently had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Mario Brown advocating for the formation of a Diversity Commission. I found him inspirational; his enthusiasm was both refreshing and infectious. I even volunteered to be on the task force because of his presentation to the Council.
Mr. Brown is in that much talked about group of younger Edmonds folks who, although much discussed, aren’t terribly visible in the politics of Edmonds. His vision of what he sees for a growing and vital Edmonds could bring an insightful perspective to discussions of future growth, and the needs of the “millennials” going forward. He is a well accomplished gentleman in his own right who takes great pride in his work with the Human Rights commission of Kitsap County; specifically with the annual Kitsap Youth rally he helped create. He has broad experience in working in areas as varied as the Tribal Heath Care and recently worked on legislation to ensure that music education would be included in elementary education. He is clearly very committed to serving the community. He’s an Arts guy too!!
Mario has much to offer Edmonds on the Council. Diane Buckshnis and Lora Petso worked with him on the Diversity Task Force and can speak to their impressions of his work. One way or the other, I suspect Mr. Brown will be a very positive part of Edmonds’ future. It would be terrific for that future to begin now with his appointment to Council.
He’s also a heck of a nice guy!
Thanks in advance for your time and consideration!
Diane Talmadge

let us not get this started.
D. – nice endorsement.
Yes, let’s get Mr. Brown on our Council. We need fresh faces and new ideas. Mr. Brown is very engaging and would be a plus for our community as we move toward the future.
I heartily agree with Ms. Talmadge. Mario Brown is and has been active in Edmonds and Snohomish county. He is an individual who is willing to step forward for the good of the people. Having served with him on the Diversity Taskforce, I can attest to his articulate and comprehensive work there. His appointment would bring both his professional and personal assets to Edmonds City Council.
