The Edmonds-Woodway girls basketball team hoped to accomplish two things in the match-up with Glacier Peak on Monday night: Wrap up second place in the Wesco South and celebrate their seniors. The seniors were celebrated as planned, but the visiting Grizzlies used a 23-3 second-quarter margin to open up an insurmountable lead that in the end gave Glacier Peak at 63-31 victory over the host Warriors.

Warrior coach Rebekah Wells took time after the game to talk about the six seniors:

Allie Browning: “Ali was a transfer who was with the program the last three years. She is a really good defender who takes pride in her defense. She improved her shot and scored three 3-pointers against Mountlake Terrace. Plans to go into the Navy next year.”

Leah Bakken: “Very athletic player. Also a great volleyball player. She will block a shot or get a rebound, whatever it takes.”

Claire Fyfe: “Very physical player. Loves to play basketball and be a part of the team. Dual threat can play the post and also shoot the 3.”

Moni Jackson: “Super speed, very good at controlling the ball and dribbling. Controls the tempo and decides when to push it up the court or pull it back out. Playing at UPS next year.”

Keitra Jones: ” Played for me all four years as I worked my way up from C team coach to varsity coach. Very coachable. Knows what she’s good at and sticks to those roles.”

Natalie Kasper: “Great on the break. Started all four years. Loves to shoot the deep 3. Started to drive more to the hole this year and is a great fast-break player. Should be playing somewhere next year, but still deciding.”

Despite the loss, the Warriors (9-3, 16-4) still earned a spot in the District playoffs, which start Friday night. E-W will have to begin on the road, likely traveling to Ferndale to start the double-elimination tournament.
