Edmonds Woodway High School will advance four wrestlers to the second day of Mat Classic XXVII at the Tacoma Dome. Two of those, Sidat Kanyi and Hiram Martin, will compete in the semi finals Saturday morning. Ebrima Fatty and Spencer Schultz are battling back through the consolation bracket.
At 113 lbs., Kanyi pinned his first opponent then earned his way to the semis by winning a 7-3 decision over Steven Kindya from North Central. Kanyi will wrestle Taylan Yuasa of Mercer Island in Saturday morning’s semi final match.
Hiram Martin continues his streak of post season pins at 132 lbs. Martin pinned both his opponents to advance to his semi final match against Dylan Foley of Auburn Mountain View.
At 106 lbs., Fatty won his first match of the tournament before losing a tough 3-1 decision to Bryce Miller from Kelso. Fatty stayed alive by defeating Rivers Greensky from Prairie 5-3.
Spencer Schultz lost his first match of the day before winning two straight in consolation.
By advancing to Saturday, all four Warriors’ will place in the top eight in their weight.
Wrestling begins at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
