The program for parents interested in talking to their teenagers about marijuana and will feature guest speaker Lara Okokoko, MSW, a family therapist specializing in the ways that problematic substance use stresses the family.
Okokoko will answer common questions including, “Is marijuana addictive?” and “What do I do if I know that they have already experimented with marijuana or alcohol?” as well as take questions from attendees.
Parents will leave with a better understanding of the new marijuana laws and ideas about how to talk to their kids about marijuana and alcohol use without using scare tactics and nagging. Parents are the biggest influence on their kids’ decisions to not use drugs and alcohol. Are you using that influence as best you can?

Kids will experiment. It’s part of growing up, and how you learn. But if you set a good example, stay involved in their lives, they’ll turn out well. Let them know what you think of drugs, be there when they need you – and relax a bit. Most of them will grow up to be people you can be proud of.
