Next Tuesday, March 3, the Edmonds City Council will vote to select a new councilmember to replace Strom Peterson, who is now in the state Legislature. Each councilmember will nominate one of the 10 applicants — who were interviewed by the council Feb. 17 — and then the council will vote on those nominated, one ballot at a time. The first applicant to receive a majority of votes — four or more — is the new councilmember, regardless of how many ballots it takes. (Note that the last time there was a vacant Edmonds City Council seat, it took 59 ballots by the remaining six councilmembers to fill it by electing current Councilmember Tom Mesaros.)

You don’t need a weather man
To know which way the wind blows…
You just need 59 ballots…?
It is pretty darn pathetic that recent history makes something like this poll available to us. I did not vote for fewer than 5 but lets hope they surprise us all (except for the 5 who voted that way so far).
If they pick the most qualified candidate in a non partisan way it will happen on the first ballot. The chances of that happening is zero.
