Vote in our poll: How many ballots will it take to elect a new councilmember?

Next Tuesday, March 3, the Edmonds City Council will vote to select a new councilmember to replace Strom Peterson, who is now in the state Legislature. Each councilmember will nominate one of the 10 applicants — who were interviewed by the council Feb. 17 —  and then the council will vote on those nominated, one ballot at a time. The first applicant to receive a majority of votes — four or more — is the new councilmember, regardless of how many ballots it takes. (Note that the last time there was a vacant Edmonds City Council seat, it took 59 ballots by the remaining six councilmembers to fill it by electing current Councilmember Tom Mesaros.)

  1. It is pretty darn pathetic that recent history makes something like this poll available to us. I did not vote for fewer than 5 but lets hope they surprise us all (except for the 5 who voted that way so far).
